Team 6: TechFree Traveler

Abundant tourism can often lead to congestion in popular tourist destinations, destruction of the land caused by vehicles and campers, increased air pollution, and unhappy locals. Our solution: TechFree Traveler - tech free adventures in lesser known rural areas to allow tourists to reconnect with nature and experience a much desired digital detox, while helping to decongest popular routes.

Team 8: Rural Roots Network

Rural Roots Network is a digital platform for sustainable tourism, connecting environmentally conscious consumers with rural entrepreneurs who want to contribute to climate adaptation in the North Atlantic. Users will browse vouchers for future outings in rural landscapes, a portion of each sale invested in on-farm climate proofing. Meanwhile, the consumer will enjoy artisan goods and the satisfaction of contributing to a farm’s sustainability mission as they anticipate an unforgettable visit.

Team 9: Rural Lights

In 48 hours, we have found a common problem and designed a solution. All team members live in rural areas with roots to farming and hunting traditions. We have witnessed conflicts of interest between landowners and recreational users/tourists, particularly post lockdown restrictions. All tourists/recreational users want to enjoy and benefit from the land. We have designed an app for communities to communicate with each other, reduce the potential for conflict through education, strengthen the areas attractiveness and safeguard the right of public access and landowner interests

Team 10: LOC8

LOC8 makes it easy & fun for travellers to leave a positive impact on the places they visit.Arriving in a new place, the app will offer a mix of things you can do for free by investing a little time and effort or donating whatever amount you want for a good cause. The app is location-based—open it up and it automatically knows where you are and which suggestions to give. These are further tuned by previous suggestions taken/challenges completed, to evoke the sense of a personalised journey, e.g. if someone is particularly interested in protecting wildlife. The app aims to cultivate a more reciprocal relationship between tourists & local communities.
Team 11: The Forgotten Rurals

Team 11: The Forgotten Rurals

We aim to tailor local sustainability tour packages for high-end tourists in groups of 4 to 20 people, to be ready to go on the market in 2022 after the corona restrictions have been lifted. We will design strategies with a humanistic approach to put together nature and rural areas as the center of a touristic scheme. It will be in strict accordance with the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The logistic of promoting this service is mostly focused on two areas: 1. to reach out to travel agencies and competent governmental entities and, 2. to make use of an official website and social network to get the interest of the public so they get motivated to get sustainable experiences rather than just buying a simple tour. We expect to create a joint agreement between the tourism industry, the government, and the tourism market.
